The department which was born in 1962 along with the College, besides teaching the regular courses in the College also participates and actively involves and organises events to spread the love of culture and literature in the society. The Honours course in the subject was initiated in 1970.The department organizes popular talks, workshops, lectures etc for the academic growth of the students. The department has a wall magazine titled Anuranaan, which has earned itself the honour of contributing immensely in the field of literature and culture.
